Tesla Roadster Demo

Elon Musk took the stage in Texas to drop a bombshell. Nine years after its initial concept was teased, the next-generation Tesla Roadster finally made its public debut—and it didn’t just roll onto the stage. Yesterday, it took off.

High-Pressure Thrusters & Upside-Down Driving

During a outdoor reveal event livestreamed on X, Tesla showcased a prototype Roadster equipped with cold-gas thruster technology engineered in collaboration with SpaceX.

The demonstration left the audience stunned:

  • Anti-Gravity Stunts: Using a massive fan suction system underneath the chassis, the car drove up a towering Hot Wheels-style ramp structure and briefly held itself upside down.

  • Rocket Propulsion: Utilizing two 600-liter carbon overlay pressure vessels carrying 250 kilograms of compressed air, the SpaceX thrusters output over 80 kilonewtons of force.

  • Flight Clearance: The vehicle engaged its air thrusters to lift entirely off the ground, maneuver mid-air, and descend smoothly back onto the tarmac in a cloud of white smoke.

"Flying cars are real," Musk declared to the crowd, adding that while the technology pushes physical limits, the engineering demonstrates what is possible when combining aerospace tech with electric vehicles.

Mind-Bending Specs (And the Fine Print)

The engineering behind the "Thrust" package is staggering, but it comes with a few major caveats:

FeatureDetails
0–60 mph AccelerationUnder 1 second
Air Tanks2 high-pressure SpaceX vessels (eliminates rear passenger seats)
Estimated Range300+ miles on custom 4680 battery cells
Production TimelineTargeted for 2028
Street LegalityNot approved for public road use

Verdict

Automotive engineers point out that while this isn't a traditional "flying car" meant for daily commuting, it represents a remarkable feat of short-burst pneumatic levitation and active aerodynamic control.

Whether the Roadster ever sees widespread production or remains a halo showcase for extreme engineering, yesterday’s event made one thing clear: the line between supercars and spacecraft just got a lot blurrier
